Selecting a left-hand helical pinion for a compatible rack arrangement? KHK SHE provides a compact set of standard steel models.

Customer: What makes this series useful?
KAYO: SHE uses S45C steel and a normal-module tooth system with a 19°31′41″ left helix. The standard version has cut teeth; SHE-H is the separately listed hardened version.
Customer: Which sizes can I choose?
KAYO: The current Japanese selection table lists 16 standard model codes, with module values 1.5, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and tooth counts from 18 to 30. Here are examples from that table.
| Model | Module | Teeth | Outside diameter (mm) | Mass (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHE1.5-20L | 1.5 | 20 | 36 | 0.16 |
| SHE2-24L | 2 | 24 | 56 | 0.56 |
| SHE3-30L | 3 | 30 | 104 | 2.47 |
| SHE5-18L | 5 | 18 | 110 | 3.91 |
| SHE6-25L | 6 | 25 | 176 | 12.8 |
Customer: How do I select the right model?
KAYO: Check the rack tooth system and helix angle as well as module. A matching module number by itself does not establish compatibility with another helical family. Helical teeth create axial thrust, so include suitable bearing support and lubrication in the design.
Customer: What are the listed model numbers?
KAYO: The standard models shown in the official selection table are:
SHE1.5-20L, SHE1.5-25L, SHE1.5-30L, SHE2-18L, SHE2-24L, SHE2-30L, SHE3-20L, SHE3-25L, SHE3-30L, SHE4-18L, SHE4-24L, SHE4-30L, SHE5-18L, SHE5-24L, SHE6-20L, SHE6-25L
Customer: What should I send with an enquiry?
KAYO: Please share the complete model number, quantity, mating gear or rack details, bore and keyway requirements, operating speed and load. We can then discuss the specification and availability for your application.
