TAS Schäfer AFS connecting flanges provide a compact shaft-mounted interface for attachments. The catalog drawing identifies the flange, disc D and screw arrangement, while the standard table lists the shaft diameter, outer diameter, transmittable torque, clamping geometry and mounting-hole data. The series is intended for a specified frictional connection whose shaft and attachment interfaces are evaluated together.

Connecting the shaft and attachment
Adapter-flange applications include disc-shaped parts such as brake discs and pulleys, with cardan-shaft connections also described as an option. AFS provides a mounting interface that must suit both the shaft and the attached component. Its geometry should be evaluated as a complete connection, including the flange face, bore pattern, available space and the required service access.
Complete standard AFS catalog table
The standard entries below cover shaft diameters from 30 to 100 mm. The illustrated AFS-200/470 is a catalog configuration example and should not be assigned the ratings of one of these smaller standard entries. Additional sizes and versions are available by arrangement. Decimal points replace the catalog decimal commas.

Drawing and screw terminology
| Symbol | Meaning |
|---|---|
| d_w | Shaft diameter |
| D | Outer diameter of the connecting flange |
| M_t,max | Maximum transmittable torque |
| H | Width of the connecting flange |
| d / A | Disc D outer diameter / screw pitch-circle diameter |
| A_1 | Flange pitch-circle diameter |
| b | Width of the flange |
| Z / S / M_A | Screw quantity / size / required tightening torque |
| S/a | Number / diameter of flange bores |
Two screw groups and their tightening values
The table distinguishes the disc D clamping screws from the flange mounting-hole arrangement. Z and S describe the disc D screw quantity and size; its M_A column gives the required tightening torque. The separate flange S/a and M_A columns describe the mounting-hole quantity and diameter and the flange-side tightening value. For example, the 30 mm shaft entry lists six M6 x 20 disc D screws at 12 Nm and a flange-hole arrangement of 4/6.6. Preserve the distinction between these two interfaces when preparing assembly documentation.
Load path and connection assessment
The connection must be assessed for the loads transferred between the attachment and shaft. Maximum transmittable torque and screw tightening torque are different quantities. A table value in Nm for the clamping screw does not define the torque rating of the connection. Check the attached component, flange connection and shaft arrangement together for torque, dynamic loading and any additional forces present.
Mounting geometry and alternatives
The AFS drawing uses D for the overall flange diameter, d for the disc D outside diameter, A for the disc D pitch circle and A_1 for the flange pitch circle. These dimensions identify different features. Check H and b against the available axial space and confirm the mating attachment dimensions. Centering, tapped-hole versions and other sizes may be specified, so the final drawing is important whenever the standard arrangement is changed.
Applications and selection
The product group is described for marine machinery, conveying, mixing and process equipment and hydropower applications. Where the technical requirements permit, an adapter flange can offer a compact alternative to an FK or FKB flange coupling, particularly at larger shaft diameters. Select the connection according to the actual interface and load rather than treating the different coupling families as directly interchangeable.
Ordering information
Provide the required AFS designation, shaft dimensions and tolerances, attachment drawing, desired bore pattern or centering arrangement, torque, speed, load spectrum and environment. Identify any tapped holes or special dimensions explicitly. Confirm the product-specific installation instructions and tightening values for the chosen AFS configuration.
