The WLB series is a rigid shaft-coupling option for greater shaft-end spacing. It combines a connecting sleeve and two pressure rings with the long-screw arrangement shown in its catalog drawing. The listed WLB015–WLB260 entries provide the specific screw lengths and clamping data for this construction, alongside the shaft options and load ratings.

Clamping principle and load path
The rigid connection uses external pressure rings or shrink discs to press a connecting sleeve onto the shaft ends. The sleeve carries the transmitted load between the shafts. The external clamping components generate radial pressure and supply the clamping force; they are outside the torque load path. The coupling is installed by sliding it onto the shaft ends and tightening the external clamping systems according to the product instructions.
Construction and installation envelope
The catalog identifies a sleeve, pressure ring G, pressure ring DG and the clamping screws. In the WLB illustration, the longer screws extend along the coupling arrangement. The complete fastener length is a series-specific dimension: WLB060, for example, lists M10 x 110 screws, while the corresponding WLA060 entry uses M10 x 50. These configurations should not be mixed during ordering or replacement.
Complete printed catalog data
Options separated by slashes are paired in the same left-to-right order across d_w, M_max, F_ax and p_w. Dimensions, screw details and weight belong to the nominal type in that row. M_max applies at F_ax = 0, and F_ax applies at M_t = 0. Decimal commas are written as decimal points. Entries are reproduced from the printed catalog; any specific verification notes below remain part of the selection information.

Series-specific data notes
WLB sleeve length and coupling width are listed separately. For example, WLB200 has L = 350 mm and H = 355 mm in the standard table. Confirm the required shaft insertion and any gap between the shaft ends using the actual assembly drawing; L is the sleeve length, not an independently specified permissible shaft-end gap.
Configuration details
WLB and WLA share many listed dimensions and nominal load values, but their screw arrangements differ. The WLB Z column is reproduced as listed and is not labeled as the WLA two-set quantity. Use the drawing and the specific series table to determine the final fastener arrangement.
Technical symbols and rating conditions
| Symbol | Meaning / rating condition |
|---|---|
| d_w | Shaft diameter |
| M_max | Maximum transmittable torque with F_ax = 0 |
| F_ax | Maximum transmittable axial force with M_t = 0 |
| D | Outer diameter of the coupling |
| L | Connecting-sleeve length |
| H | Coupling width where given; catalog dimensions are for the unlocked condition |
| A | Screw pitch-circle diameter |
| M_A | Required clamping-screw tightening torque |
| Z / S | Screw quantity as listed / screw size |
| p_w | Average contact pressure on the shaft |
Rigid connection and shaft alignment
These are rigid couplings and cannot compensate shaft misalignment. Align the shafts accurately before assembly. The drive or gearbox arrangement needs suitable elastic support elsewhere in the drivetrain to accommodate shocks, deformation and vibration. A longer connecting sleeve provides a different shaft-spacing arrangement; it does not turn the coupling into a flexible or misalignment-compensating element.
Combined loads and shaft stiffness
M_max is stated for torque transmission with zero axial force. F_ax is stated for axial loading with zero torque. The two maxima cannot be applied simultaneously as independent allowances. Where torque, axial load and bending occur together, assess their combined effect and check each operating case. Rotating bending is a dynamic load case; a static torque-only review does not cover it.
A hollow shaft has lower radial stiffness than a comparable solid shaft, which can change contact pressure, deformation and transmittable torque. Include any shaft bore and material properties in the calculation. The catalog also addresses stress concentrations and contact conditions, so a diameter-and-torque match alone is not the complete design check.
Recommended fits and surface roughness
These are the diameter intervals and recommendations given in the basic-design table. They do not extend the available sizes of this series. If a needed diameter interval or tolerance is not stated, confirm the application-specific requirement rather than extrapolating the table.

Assembly surfaces and positioning
The contact surfaces at the shaft ends must be clean, dry and free of grease. The functional surfaces of the external clamping system, the screw threads and the under-head bearing surfaces have their specified lubrication requirements. The coupling is supplied ready for installation, but the shaft surfaces and the final assembly still need to satisfy the selected product procedure. Keep the shaft friction surfaces separate from the lubricated screw and clamping surfaces.
The cylindrical clearance arrangement permits positioning of the sleeve on the shaft ends. The catalog describes no subsequent axial shift during clamping. Confirm adequate insertion beneath the pressure rings or shrink discs and locate the shaft contact regions as required by the product drawing. Follow the documented tightening and release sequence for the selected external clamping system.
Applications and special versions
Typical application areas include marine drives, materials handling, mixing and process machinery and industrial drive systems requiring a rigid shaft-end connection. Longer sleeve arrangements can be adapted to shaft spacing, while special dimensions, corrosion protection and surface finishes can be specified by arrangement. An adapted version requires its own drawing and load check.
Ordering information
Specify the complete series and nominal type, both shaft-end dimensions and tolerances, shaft materials, actual shaft-end spacing, torque, speed, axial and bending loads and the load spectrum. Include assembly and removal access, required surface finish, corrosion protection and any special dimensions. Confirm the item-specific drawing and installation instructions, especially for adapted bores or sleeves, before using a catalog value as the final equipment specification.
